1. Whenever you are purchasing any cosmetic product, first look at the product quality and durability because they should not affect the texture of your skin.
  2. To test the reliability of the product, first apply it on the earlobes to check if it suits your skin texture.
  3. Moreover do not use items that have crossed the expiry date. Some of the products if not stored as suggested get spoilt easily.
  4. Maintain the entire make up equipments because you use them often. Cleanliness is an essential activity of skin care. As part of cleanliness, keep your hair and yourself clean always.
  5. Even the maintenance of nails is important. Polish them with a coat of polish and after polishing them always rub with oil at the edges.
  6. If you have sunken eyes then use liquid eyeliner instead of using a pencil.
  7. Do not apply any harsh chemical without the consultation of your physician, especially if you are having a skin disease. Do not try to slit off your pimples or acne. It may start to bleed.
  8. When you want to remove all your makeup, do not just wash your face but apply a make up remover.
  9. When you are using a deodorant see that there is a distance between the pack nozzle and your skin.

How important is the mere appearance to a man? Well, a man can’t lie to himself – very important. A dermatologist takes a close look at the products and processes designed to make a man nice to be near to, and spell out the A-B-Cs of good grooming.

Is your bathroom mirror a location you approach with trepidation each morning for fear of the tale it will tell? Namely, that your appearance could do with a bit of sprucing up?

Well, stop worrying that a pimple, and quiet reflecting on that bald pate. If you really want to turn over a new look (and women don’t have the monopoly on good looks!) there’s nothing to stop you.

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty:

In dusty cities and other polluted areas, it is a good habit to wash your hair every day. “Daily washing does not ruin the hair,” says Dermatologist. “In fact, it is hygienic and makes the headless prone to infection.”

Many men shy away from shampoos believing them to be exclusively a woman’s beauty aid. But, basically, shampoo is for hair and hair has no gender. Shampoos produce lather better than soap and, because the surface tension is less, it makes it easier to clean the hair.

Conditioners break the disulfide bonds of the hair, thus making the hair more manageable and easier to groom. Today, shampoos are available with built-in conditioners, making them a convenient cosmetic aid.

No woman likes a man with a dandruff problem. Dandruff is one of the great put-offs. But, contrary to popular thinking, “dandruff is not a disease,” informs Dermatologist. “It is an accentuated physiological problem. That is, the skin is shed regularly under normal circumstances and when the shedding is excessive it is called dandruff.” Most so-called anti-dandruff shampoos available in the market only wash away the dead cells from the scalp. The exception is selenium sulfide, an ingredient that reduces the turnover or formation of cells, thus retarding, though not curing the problem. The best advice you could follow is to keep the scalp clean by daily washing.

A balding head – every man’s Achilles heel! Quite a few ‘losers’ have turned to minoxidil as a hair restorer. While the regular application of minoxidil does sprout fine hair on bald areas of the scalp, as soon as the application is ceased, the hair begins to fall off again. Even more important, minoxidil affects the heart and cardiac problems. Therefore it should be used only under a doctor’s supervision.

Go for a haircut to your neighborhood saloon and in most cases, you will be given a head massage as a perk (sometimes you pay extra). Indeed, the massaging action does perk up blood circulation, but it is mistakenly assumed (and assured by hair-dressers) to also improve hair growth. “That is a myth,” says Dermatologist, “for the growth and life of your hair are determined by your individual genetic pattern.” So, enjoy the relaxing effects of the message by all means, but don’t expect miracles to sprout above your hairline.

Now for blood and tears, otherwise known as shaving. Your grandfather probably used soap, but today it is more fashionable to use shaving creams. There are the conventional ones which have to be lathered on with a brush, and there is also the spray variety which spreads foam at the press of a button. Essentially, however, “soap and water would do as well,” argues Dermatologist. Like shaving creams, they simply fulfill the basic requirement of softening the hair for a better shave. The only advantage that a shaving cream has over soap is that it produces a thicker leather which does not drip or dry as quickly as soap does.

Use a sharp-edged blade while shaving. A dull-edged blade can cause irritation because of the repeated friction on the skin. Stroke with the grain and wash the razor clean after a shave – a dirty razor can cause skin infections. “Fungus on the shaving areas of a man’s face can almost always be traced back to an unclean razor,” says Dermatologist.

After-shaves are big business. They are advertised as a lifestyle. But the main ingredient in all of them is a high concentration of ethyl alcohol. The only differences between one and another lie in the percentage of ethyl alcohol and in the additives used (cologne, lime, musk, etc.) After-shaves are advisable because the ethyl alcohol performs two functions. It is anti-bacterial, meaning it destroys germs and bacteria on the skin’s surface. Secondly, it is an astringent, which means that if you nick yourself (rather a common occurrence during shaving), the after-shave will cause coagulation of serum in the cut areas. This seals off the wound, making it impervious to external infection. Finally, an aftershave and when you smell good, you feel good, too.

Coming to skin care, more and more men are going in for facials and related treatments these days. They steam, massage and even bleach their faces at beauty salons. Steaming improves blood circulation because of the warmth, but more importantly, it helps to soften plugs (white and blackheads), making them easier to remove. Please note, bleaching cannot change skin coloring because pigmentation goes much deeper. Bleaches only lighten the melanin in the dead layer of the skin which sloughs off within 7-14 days when a new layer forms.

A facial massage, done by expert hands, helps to stimulate and tone those muscles that are not exercised in daily living. But while the massaging action may be beneficial, the oils and creams used as lubricants can form residues on the skin surface and block pores. “I’ve had many cases when the oils used become comedogenic (causing blackheads) and acneigenic (causing acne) after facials.” That is why, if the skin reacts adversely to a message, it is best avoided.

The human body has two sets of sweat glands. The apocrine glands – which lie in the armpits and the genital areas – are the ones that give off an odor. The secretion they exude reacts to the surface of the skin, releasing what we know as body odor. It is therefore advisable to keep the area clean and dry a much as possible. Since hair provides a retention site for the sweat, the problem can be greatly lessened by shaving off underarm hair.

The other set of sweat glands are the eccrine glands, which lie all over the skin’s surface. Their main function is to control the body’s temperature. When the temperature rises, sweat serves to cool the body surface. The eccrine glands do not produce odor, but if skin areas are allowed to remain moist, the fungus can set in.

Are there men who do not suffer from sweaty feet! One good hygiene habit is to wash and dry feet as footwear is taken off. In hot and humid countries, cotton socks are a better choice than nylon ones. Cotton absorbs the sweat, leaving the feet dry.

Again, because of the sweat, shoes remain moist. Most men use just one pair of shoes for daily wear. Often, the gap between the time a man takes off his shoes and puts them on again is not enough to allow the leather of the shoes to dry. This dampness can lead to fungal infections on the feet. You may never have thought of this before, but it might be a good idea to have at least two pairs of shoes to be used on alternate days.

Keds and sneakers are popular footwear today, but the PVC/rubber soles, as well as the other material used in these shoes generally retain heat. Hence the feet tend to remain moist. If you sweat too much, place cotton wads between your toes. The cotton will absorb the sweat and, by keeping the toes apart from each other, will reduce friction between them.

Broken or dirty finger and toe-mails are an ugly sight. Give yourself a regular manicure to keep your nails trim and clean.

Finally, watch your style! Your lifestyle, that is. Unsightly bags or puffy eyes can be the result of too much partying or too little sleep. Alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs can also be to blame.

Pamper yourself – but in the right way. And it will show in the way you look. You’ll enjoy coming face-to-face with yourself in that bathroom mirror! And others will enjoy an encounter with you.

  1. Check the heat distribution of the hair straightener – Some hair straighteners, mostly those with metal plates, have an uneven temperature among the surface of the plates. You hair could be severely damaged if one end of the plate will have a temperature of 180c and the other of 210c. Sedu hair straightener and other straighteners with ceramic plates usually have an even distribution of the heat.
  2. Check the quality of the temperature control function – Hair straighteners with ceramic plates usually heat up and cool down quickly, what gives you a better control. You should also make sure that you can choose from a wide selection of temperatures.
  3. A low temperature is not effective- A hair straightener which has a max temperature of about 150c will be less effective – Your hair style may not last through the day.
  4. Do not use the hair straightener when you don’t need it – Using the hair straightener on a daily basis may harm your hair. Try giving your hair a day off at least once a week.
  5. Use hair oils to protect your hair – An excessive use of the hair straightener may dry your hair out. Use oils to protect your hair.
  6. Use Hair straighteners with advanced technologies such as infra red radiation and ionic technology – These technologies protect your hair and can even improve the condition of your hair. Hair straighteners like the Sedu hair straighteners which have both technologies will keep your hair in the best condition.

In the beginning of the treatment AHA peels may cause some redness, irritation or stinging. As the skin adjusts to the peel, theses effects disappear. This treatment generally takes about ten minutes during which the doctor applies the peeling solution to your face. No protective covering is required over the treated are and you can continue working normally. With your maintenance program at home, you may see a different fresh looking skin after some days. The results may not be immediately visible. Mixed with bleach this peel will also treat some uneven pigmentation.

Sun protection is necessary with this treatment. Please don’t expose yourself to sun without taking adequate protection.

What are the important features? A mirror is a mirror, right? Wrong! There are some specific features you should look for in your lighted make-up mirror: Magnification, type of light, size, and power source.

When you choose your mirror, right off the bat you can exclude anything less that 7x magnification power. Power less than 7x really will not give you the magnification you need to get a good look at your skin. You need to see very close up. A 5x will get you by, but why bother with something that will barely meet your needs, if at all? It is better to start out right. A 10x mirror is just too much for most people and may actually strain your eyes a little. There are many choices out there that have a 7x on one side and a 10x on the other – a good possibility.

The type of light is a also an important consideration for your lighted make-up mirror. It’s the old incandescent vs. fluorescent debate. And the winner is? Fluorescent. The incandescent lights almost always make your skin look a weird yellow/orange color. You want a nice white light that will show the natural color of your skin.

A common complaint about lighted makeup mirrors is that the light is too dim. Make sure the light is sufficient. So many manufacturers will say “bright lights” or “great illumination” blah, blah, blah. But when you get the mirror home, it barely gives off any light at all, or it is directed away from the mirror entirely.

Another common difficulty is size. Many lighted make-up mirrors will say that they are 8″ or 10″, but when you get them home, you realize that the actual mirror is only 5 or 6 inches! Just make sure you check the size of the actual mirror and not the entire light apparatus and frame.

Lastly, you will want to make sure that the mirror is the right height. A mirror with a 15-18 inch “neck” will allow you to examine your skin without bending over too much.

Every hair has its pros and cons. Oily hair happens to be one of the common problems. With the common problem there are common solutions which, used wisely can be very helpful for all the people with oily hair. One of the things which can be done to remove the oil from your hair is to eat healthy food. Food which is healthy and nutritious such as vegetables, fruits, sprouts, lentils, pulses all taken in right proportion can be very helpful. Junk food such as fries, burgers, hot dogs and many more just keep on adding more oil to body and hair.

After changing your food habits, it is time to get a shampoo which is more feasible with your hair. For oily hair wash your hair at least twice a week. There are many brands of shampoo in the market which can give your hair the bounce and shine you require. The chemicals in the shampoo may strip your hair from its moisture, so try using a shampoo which is very mild and has the blend of all the required minerals. Use clear, see-through shampoos which will remove the oil without leaving any residue behind. When you apply the shampoo massage well, this way there are chances that you may squeeze out some oil too.

When you are applying conditioner see to it that you apply it at the roots and middle avoiding the roots. You could also try this at home; firstly have a mixture of mild vinegar and water in the ratio of 1:1. Use this water to rinse away the excess oil from your scalp. While applying this solution let it settle for some time making it more effective. This way the solution can work better in helping you remove the oil.

Australia’s Gift to Skin Care

Tea tree oil is the skin-care lotion for troubled times. Traditionally used by aboriginal tribes of Australia, the properties of this plant seem endless: antiseptic, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory-the list goes on. Tea tree oil helps heal broken skin, fights infection, and encourages healing by forming new tissue. Dry cracked lips respond readily to lip salve containing tea tree oil. Try adding a drop of tea tree oil to your regular moisturizer for added healing and toning benefits.

Exfoliating Foods

Apples, grapes, milk, and yogourt not only make a healthy breakfast, they are the source of alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). These food-based acids are the skin cleansers of the cosmetics industry, and are used in many skin creams, lotions, and facial masks. AHAs safely and gently remove greyish dead cells from the surface of the skin, revealing a fresh, healthy complexion. AHAs are the miracle rejuvenators. It’s easy to make an AHA mask or scrub with everyday kitchen items-combine yogourt with a bit of honey and some mashed fruit, such as strawberries. Slop on your face and leave for 10 minutes, then rinse. Following exfoliation with AHAs, the skin is susceptible to sunburn; a sunscreen should be used even on a cloudy day.

Silica for Smooth, Silky Skin

Horsetail is never welcomed by gardeners, but don’t expect to get rid of it soon. This plant is a member of the Equisetaceae family, which formed the primitive forests that covered the earth millions of years ago. Horsetail is one of the plants richest in silica, which is essential for strong cell structure. Collagen supplements containing horsetail bring strength and elasticity to skin tissue. Silica is available as a liquid supplement and in tablet form. Shampoos and moisturizers containing silica are less effective because silica is difficult to absorb through the skin.

  1. Pluck only from the underside of the brow in the direction that the hair grows. Don’t pluck from the top of the brow and chance plucking too much and losing the shape of the brow. You may also want to pluck any stray hairs between the brows. If you find it painful apply a lubricant before you pluck, preferably one that had a dulling effect like oral gel.
  2. If you find your eyebrows are starting to thin use a brow color to fill them in using feather strokes, do not draw on lines in place of eyebrows.
  3. Brows should be the same color as your hair or a shade lighter.
  4. Your brow should start right above the inner corner of your eye. To determine where the eyebrow should start place a pencil against the nostril and line it up with the inner corner of your eye. Your eyebrow should end at a diagonal with the outer corner of your eye. To determine this, place a pencil at the side of your nose ending at the outer corner of your eye. The eyebrow should arch above the outer rim of the iris.

Be careful when you tweeze and if you are unsure go to a professional. Incorrect tweezing can ruin the look of your eyebrows and after a certain time the eyebrow will not grow back. If you do use a professional, keep regular appointments and don’t let your eyebrows get too unruly between appointments. Or, after you have had a professional do your eyebrows keep them in shape by plucking the stray hairs as they grow.

Stop imagining! You can make your dreams of hairless summers and hairless winters come true. First of all I believe it’s important for women and men to find out what causes abnormal hair growth before they start drastic measure to remove it. Doctors say hair usually grows abnormally due to hormones. Once you’ve determined whether you have health concerns related to your hair, then you can decide on the appropriate remedy.

I can tell you lasers are safe and effective in the removal of unwanted hair. A trained specialist can help you determine what treatment is best for you using your skin and hair type. With lasers you don’t have to worry about shaving, tweezing, or waxing now and forever. Forever sounds like a long time, doesn’t it? Lasers produce a beam of light that is used to remove hair. The light passes through the skin to the hair follicle. Once it gets to the hair it basically kills it. Neat, huh? The process only takes less than an hour.

Lasers are attracted to dark colors. You’ll get the best results if your hair is darker than your complexion. You’re wondering if the laser has any side effects. It does if you have a tan. Tanning and lasering leads to burning. Ouch, it really hurts so you’ll want to beware of adding the two in combo. Also, it’s important to note that the laser doesn’t do a thing for blondes, white or gray haired people.

If you’re not ready to give lasers a shot, then there are several other techniques on the market that can help you get rid of your hair-raising problem. Let’s talk about the only permanent hair removal known to man right now. It’s called electrolysis. If you’re scared of needles, then this is not the treatment for you. You’ll want to make sure that you have not waxed or tweezed within a few days of having a treatment. This makes the hair follicle easier for the electrologist to reach.

The electrologist inserts a tiny needle into each hair follicle and uses a short impulse of energy to kill the root. Sounds, cool, huh? The hair is tweezed out one at a time. Sounds like an awfully long process. However, it only takes a few hours. You will most likely need more than one treatment to kill all of your hair. There are electrolysis kits that you can use at home, but I wouldn’t recommend it. You’re better off using a licensed electrologist.

Speaking of problems, what’s yours? Everyone has a specific area of the body where they want to be bald. Women usually hate facial hair on their upper lips, chin and sides of face. Hairs in those areas don’t seem to bother men that much! Okay, I shouldn’t joke about it! Hair on the lip is very troubling to most women. It can be removed using a bleaching procedure.

Bleaching works if your hair is similar in color to your skin. Be careful, bleaching lightens hair in dark complexions. I’ll never forget someone with a dark complexion once asked me if she could use a depilatory creams on the lip. No way, don’t even think! My response was fast and furious. Depilatories are harsh on sensitive skin and should never be placed on the lips or eyes areas.

The important thing to remember about depilatories is you should use them on the legs and thighs only. Depilatory creams dissolve the keratin in hair. As you can imagine that’s some pretty strong stuff! Be sure to test patches of skin before you put the cream on. The cream can cause rashes and skin discolorations. It is possible to treat a negative reaction with an anti-bacterial solution and antibiotic.

Waxing on the other hand is a great way to remove hair from the legs and thighs and bikini area. Your skin will feel so clean, smooth and soft after this procedure. Waxing doesn’t irritate your skin the way shaving and creams do. However, waxing is a temporary hair removal procedure. Waxing is similar to the sugaring procedure that is also temporary.

Sugaring is becoming more popular for people who want to be hairless in the bikini area. The sugar is warmed not at all like the high heat that’s used in waxing. The warmed sugar is placed on the skin. Your technician will then remove the sugar with muslin strips. The sugar sticks mostly to the hair and not the skin. That makes it easier when it’s time to remove the hair. I highly recommend sugaring because the red bumps and other skin irritations are minimized with it.

You’re daring, right? You want a bikini wax, but you want it all over. Then, you’ll have to try what is called a Brazilian bikini wax. Have you ever been to Brazil? The natives are not at all ashamed of their bodies. The Brazilian wax removes hair all over the pubic area including the labia and buttocks. You can tell your technician how far to go, or not go. A patch of hair is sometimes left above the vagina.

Now, the procedure for getting a Brazilian wax is the same just about as with a bikini wax. You’ll be given a paper thong if you’re a little shy to put on for Brazilian bikini wax. Your hair will be cut using some scissors. The wax is then put on using a wooden stick. Strips of cloth are used to take the hair off. Tweezers are sometimes used to pick away stray hairs. Some folk’s say it hurts, others swear it works magic to improve their self-esteem and body image. You now have choices whether it’s shavers and creams or lasers and wax. You no longer have to live with a hair-raising experience. Get rid of it! The choice is yours.

  1. The method of hair removal known as electrolysis began in 1875 when a doctor named Charles E. Michel started to remove ingrown eyelashes with an electric current and a very fine wire. Since that time, electrolysis is the only proven form for the permanent removal of unwanted hair.
  2. While electrolysis can be a painful procedure to endure, the use of a pain relieving cream can lessen or eliminate the pain. The reason for the pain is that a thin wire is placed directly on the hair follicle itself and electricity is passed through, therefore effectively destroying the root.
  3. While the electrolysis hair removal method is considered permanent, this does not happen in the first visit. In fact, it can take a large amount of treatments before an area is considered to be free of hair. One reason for this is that hair follicles grow at different times; therefore, some of the follicles will be dormant and are not treated.
  4. Another cause for multiple treatments that are needed is that if the root is not hit exactly right, some of the root will not be destroyed and can continue to grow hair. The average treatment will result in approximately 2/3 of the hair being removed, with the success of the session depending upon the skill of the technician performing the electrolysis.
  5. It is important to note that while an increasing number or do-it-yourself electrolysis systems are on the market; this is not a good idea, particularly when facial hair needs to be removed. This is because the home systems use a lesser amount of voltage, therefore allowing a greater number of hair follicles to survive and re-grow. Removing hair on the face requires a mirror, which can distort vision and lead to problems.
